About Laura.

Hello, lovely to meet you.

I am a British graphic designer, illustrator and animator living in Zürich, and what better place to be, than in this thriving hub of science and ideas coming to life.

When I was younger, my interests led me along two very different directions. Pursuing physics and maths on one side and art and design on the other, I made the decision to continue with science at university. After gaining a Masters degree in physics, I worked as a radar scientist for the Met Office in the UK, and as a software engineer for the Swiss Seismological Service. Although satisfying careers in their own way, the urge to create became something that i couldn’t ignore.

After becoming more aware of the paths available to me, I realised that combining these two interests is not only possible, but that bridging the gap between two disciplines is increasingly common and in demand. Scientific thinking means asking the right questions, and realising what details are important to the concept. Visual thinking is knowing how the eye can understand abstract form and colour, and make it into something that is a pleasure to look at. My portfolio shows my deep-dive into this world, where every project has incorporated new tools or technology, and aims to be better than the last.

I want to create beautiful, useful visuals that can communicate concepts that words simply can’t. I enjoy pushing the boundaries, and if it sounds like a challenge, I am even more excited by it. If you want to push the boundaries with me, send me an email.
